Cathy Fisher

Artist & Illustrator

Cathy is an artist, illustrator and picture book maker, based in Wales. She grew up in Bath with four brothers and four sisters.

Art, picture books, storytelling and creating images have always been important in her life. One of her earliest memories is drawing on the wall by her bed.

Cathy went to art school to study fashion and textile design. She then taught in art schools in England and the Seychelles, before moving to Australia where her children grew up.

She has been working for over 40 years, collaborating with acclaimed writers and illustrators.

Her books, with author Nicola Davies, Perfect, The Pond and The New Girl, were long-listed for the prestigious CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.

Cathy’s recent books are tender and compassionate stories written by Jackie Morris.

Inspired by her observation of human behaviour and emotion, and her deep connection with nature, Cathy creates detailed artworks with watercolours and mixed media.

Her work gives her the freedom to stretch her imagination and express visual narratives.

“Making pictures carries me to another place, it can be exhilarating and scary and I love it.”
